Hello, I recently was talking to mother in law who was talking about as a kid going
to Bismarck ND (they lived in New Leibzig) Woolworths in the early to mid 1950s. Her
favorite thing to get was the strawberry banana pie. She said it was a gelled not a
cream pie. I have searched the Internet and Pinterest and not found anything. Her 85th
birthday Is in October and I was hoping to surprise her with this special treat:)
thank you, Jodi

Hi Jodi,

I have several recipes from Woolworth's, but not this one. I searched for this in 2011 with no success. See: 02-04-2011

I did a fresh search today, likewise with no success.

I'll post this for reader input, but since there has been no response to my 2011 request, I am doubtful of a positive response.

Hi Phaed,

I was browsing through some of my old notebooks of recipe clippings from
The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, OH and came across this recipe. It seems
to be a recipe made from this lady's memory after eating it. I hope it will
help the lady that's looking for it.
I think the second version might just be the one.
I hope you can see the recipe ok...I'm not very good at taking pictures,
but wanted to send the original copy.
It enlarged on my phone so I hope it will for you.

Sandy

I have transcribed the recipes from the clipping below.

Strawberry-Banana Pie

Pie No. 1

1 pkg. (3 ounces) strawberry gelatin
1 1/3 cups boiling water
2 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups sliced bananas
1 baked pie shell (9-inch)
			whipped topping

Mix gelatin in boiling water, stirring until
dissolved. Put in refrigerator to chill until it
begins to set (a little more than syrupy). Cut
large strawberries in quarters, smaller ones in
half. Mix fruit into gelatin and pour mixture
into crust. Refrigerate until set. Top with
whipped topping.

Pie No. 2

1 cup hot water
1 cup cold water
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 pkg. (3 ounces) strawberry gelatin
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups sliced bananas
1 baked pie shell (9-inch)
			whipped topping

Pour hot water into a 1-quart saucepan. Mix
cornstarch with cold water and add to hot water.
Stir in sugar and let come to a boil, stirring
constantly to keep it smooth. Simmer about 10
minutes. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm.

Cut large berries in half, keeping small berries
whole. Mix strawberries and bananas. Add to cooled
glaze and pour into pie shell. Refrigerate until
well-set, about 2 hours. Top with whipped topping.
