Dear Phaed, I am looking for a retro recipe for Macaroni and Baby shrimp salad.
This would have been in the early to mid 50's I think. I remember Grandmother
making it for me but I don' what all went with it and the proportions of each.

As I recall it had the cooked macaroni, canned baby shrimp, celery, maybe a
little of minced onion and of course:  Mayo.

Do you know of such a recipe?  If so, please pass it along to me.

Thank you,

Alaina

Hello Alaina,

Well, I can't search for a recipe by date, i.e. "50s." People just don't put dates on recipes when they post them on the web, and also usually don't when they collect them for cookbooks.

The other problem with finding a recipe that might fit your memory exactly is that there are dozens of recipes for macaroni and shrimp salad, many differing by only one ingredient.

Below are a couple of typical recipes.  If you can provide a more detailed description of your grandmother's dish, I can search further.

Phaed

Macaroni & Shrimp Salad

2-3 c. elbow or shell macaroni
1-2 cans baby shrimp, drained
2-3 stalks celery, chopped
1-2 cans olives, drained & chopped
1-2 c. mayonnaise, enough to coat noodles
1 c. green onions, finely chopped
5 or 6 eggs, boiled, chopped
Salt
Seasoned salt
Pepper
Parsley flakes

Boil macaroni until tender; drain and rinse in cold water. Add vegetable and mayonnaise.
Mix thoroughly. Add just enough of spices to suit your individual taste and enjoy.
All ingredients may be added to suit one's own taste. All measurements are approximate.

Shrimp Salad

2 c. macaroni
1 sm. bottle Catalina dressing
2 c. baby shrimp
1/2 c. sour cream
1 c. mayonnaise
1 can black olives

Cook macaroni and drain. Add dressing and let set in refrigerator overnight.
Mix sour cream, mayonnaise and shrimp, drained. Add black olives.
