Hello Don,
There is an online dessert company named "Mackenzies" and there is a "McKenzies Bakery" in Vicksburg, Michigan as well as other bakeries named "McKenzies" around the U.S. Any of those have or had an "apple cake." But, perhaps you mean "McKenzies Bakery," formerly in New Orleans, LA.
If you do mean the New Orleans bakery, then I had no success locating a recipe for their apple cake or a detailed description of it. On a Facebook page devoted to that particular bakery, I Miss McKenzie's Bakery, someone asked if anyone knew where a similar cake could be found. No one had a recipe, but people made recommendations regarding where the person asking could find a similar cake. There were some suggestions given for similar apple cakes. I assume these places are all in New Orleans and vicinity:
Question:Does anybody know where to find apple cake like McKenzie had?
try "tastee" mckenzie's on harrison ave in nola-tastee, but they have the original recipes on most items-across from velvet cactus & st dominic's church
Haydel's Bakery
I actually found it at Sweet savors bakery on Elysian Fields
Don, if you are in New Orleans, perhaps you can get a similar cake at one of these locations.
