My grandmother and I loved eating in the morning , the whole whole house would have this distinct smell. Please help me so I could make it and cherish the memories with her.
Hello Juliet,
I have little familiarity with Van de Kamp's products other than what I have garnered from searching for their recipes.
I have a Van de Kamp's page here: Van de Kamp's
There are two people who have access to Van de Kamp's actual recipes. They are:
George Geary at: https://www.georgegeary.com/ and Kathryn Van de Kamp at:George Geary and: Kathryn Van de Kamp's Bakery
There is also a Van de Kamp's fan page at: Van de Kamp's Bakery
Those people can give you much more help than I can. I could not even begin a search for that recipe without knowing Van de Kamp's name for the bread. "Super small loaf of bread" is just not enough information.

Hello Again, Juliet,
I decided to try yet again to find out what kind of bread this might be. From comments on various message boards, I think that it might have been "salt rising bread." Salt rising bread is made in small loaves, has a strong smell, and is said to make great toast.
This person thinks so, too, and he has a recipe for salt rising bread on his webpage. He also mentions Van de Kamp's on that page.
