BH&G Tropical Pie

Subject: Lost recipe

Phaedrus Ė Itís been quite a while since Iíve needed a recipe from you. Since then weíve moved to a new town,
and then to a senior complex, my son-in-law passed away last year (still miss him so much, canít imagine how
my daughter feels), and I got rid of cancer this year. We had to downsize for this last move but kept all my
recipe books. However, somehow I cannot find my recipe for Tropical Pie. It was in an old Better Homes and
Gardens 5-ring recipe book. When that one was getting pretty frayed I bought the Better Homes and Gardens
New Cookbook, dated 1981. I didnít keep the cover for the old one and there is no date in it. I kept the
old recipes when I found that some of the recipes were not in the new one, including the Tropical Pie recipe,
which is listed in the Pastry and pies section under Meringue pies on page 303. That page is now missing
from my book and Iíve looked everywhere for it. I want to serve it to a couple neighbors this Friday, but
if you canít find it my backup pie is peach. Peaches are in the grocery stores now and the Colorado ones
are juicy wonderful.

Thank you for your help over the years. Itís really appreciated.

I see on your website that you have only been able to find a few Helms
Bakery recipes, but my favorites were the dark chocolate layer cake and its
twin, the lemon layer cake. Iíd be thrilled if you could find either or (if
I am lucky) both of the recipes. Thanks for trying!

Hello Allene,

Sorry, other than the four recipes that I have linked from my Helms Bakery page, I have not had any success locating any of their recipes: Helms Bakery

I searched again today for you, but no success with the chocolate or lemon layer cakes.

There are a lot of Helms Bakery memories here: Old LA Restaurants

I'll post this for reader input.
